Our district, Aurora Public Schools serves one of the most diverse students groups across the US, with over 38,000 students from 130+ countries, speaking 160+ languages. To give our students the best support possible, we switched from Read&Write to Mote this year, and we couldn’t be happier. It’s been a HUGE unlock for both our teachers and students. To show you why we aren’t looking back, I’ve put together my 10 reasons why you should take the leap and make the switch to Mote too.

1. Voices that actually sound human

Our students hated listening to robotic text-to-speech. With Mote, they get dozens of natural-sounding voices to choose from—including languages, accents, and dialects that actually represent them.

2. An enjoyable, clutter-free experience

You get all of the reading and writing tools you need, but in a friendly, modern interface. Who would’ve thought you could do so much with a compact sidebar that doesn’t eat up 20% of your screen?

3. Latency doesn’t exist

Imagine clicking a button and getting an instant response. Highlight, listen, move on! Our previous literacy support tool had so much lag, freezing, and overall janky performance that it actually discouraged students from using it.

4. The best Google Workspace integrations we’ve seen

It feels like Mote was purpose-built for Google Workspace. From embeddable audio in Slides to voice comments in Docs and Read Aloud in Forms, the experience isn’t "bolted on"—it’s seamless.

5. Translation wherever students need it

Mote’s translation isn’t a separate step; it’s built into every feature across 60+ languages. Our ELLs get help right at the point of need, whether that’s through Read Aloud, speech-to-text, or dictionary support.

6. Everything feels authentic

From the voices to the interface to the customer support, everything about Mote feels genuine. Students naturally gravitate towards it, teachers trust it, and when we need help, we deal with real people who understand our needs.

7. Mote listens

When we were using Read&Write, it felt like our feature requests went into a void. Mote actually listens to educator feedback and implements changes that benefit all students.

8. Affordable district subscriptions with unmatched support

Not only was Mote significantly more cost-effective for us, but the onboarding and ongoing support were top-tier. With flexible licensing, easy domain enablement, and ClassLink SSO, they are the perfect partner for districts.

9. An integrated learning loop

This was a pleasant surprise. Students don’t just read and move on—Mote’s highlighter and dictionary feed into vocabulary lists, flashcards, matching quizzes, and sentence activities. It creates a genuine language development cycle that supports UDL and MTSS frameworks.

10. It’s purpose-built for the classroom

There are no conflicting interests here. Mote was made specifically for the K-12 environment. It’s compliant, accessible, and so intuitive that a 3rd grader can use it—literally.
