Speech to Text

Dictate instead of typing in Mote for iOS, to get past writer's block and get ideas onto the page.

What this feature does:

Speech to Text in Mote for iOS lets a student dictate rather than type. Spoken words become written text a student can keep working with, so getting started does not depend on typing.

Why it matters:

  • Removes the motor and spelling load that stops many students before they begin
  • Helps students get past writer's block by letting them talk their way in
  • Keeps the focus on what a student wants to say rather than how fast they can type it

MTSS:

  • Tier 1: Another route into writing for any student
  • Tier 2/3: A core accommodation for students with dysgraphia or motor challenges

UDL Principles:

  • Multiple means of action and expression: speaking as a route into written work

Try it yourself

  1. Open Writer or any text field in Mote for iOS.
  2. Tap the dictation button.
  3. Speak your text and watch it appear.
  4. Edit what you dictated and save it to your library.
