Translation

Translation is built into every reader in Mote for iOS, so a multilingual learner can read a page in their own language and hear it spoken back.

What this feature does:

Translation in Mote for iOS is built into every reader rather than bolted on. A student opens any item in their library, chooses their language, and reads the content translated and hears it spoken back to them.

Why it matters:

  • Lets English Learners (English Language Learners) reach grade-level content while their English is still developing
  • Reading and hearing the translation together supports listening comprehension alongside reading
  • Works on the student's own device, so they reach for it themselves rather than waiting for support
  • Helps families engage with school material in the language they speak at home

MTSS:

  • Tier 1: Language access built into every reader for all students
  • Tier 2/3: Targeted language support for newcomer and emergent bilingual students

UDL Principles:

  • Multiple means of representation: content offered in the student's own language

Try it yourself

  1. Open an item from your library.
  2. Choose your language from the reader's translation control.
  3. Read the translated text, or tap play to hear it spoken.
