Writing Review

Writing support that teaches, not corrects.

For students

Review writing from any webpage, including Google Docs.

See a list of suggested changes, and the reason behind each one.

Complete edits independently, then recheck to confirm they are fixed.

For teachers

Encourage independent review of writing.

Cover spelling, homophone and grammar errors all in one review.

Ensure students can explain their work, not have a tool write it for them.

What it is

Writing Review is Mote's writing-support product, in the Sidebar's Writing Mode. It helps students through the writing process, checking for spelling, homophones, and grammar. Every issue it flags comes with an explanation. Writing Review teaches rather than auto-corrects, so the student understands what they have changed and why.

Common questions

Does it write the work for the student?

No. The review flags what could be better and explains why, but the student makes every change themselves. Nothing is rewritten for them.

What does the review check?

Spelling, homophones, and grammar. Each suggestion comes with a plain-language explanation of the issue and a before and after example.

Where does it work?

Anywhere a student writes on the web. Highlight a draft on any page and send it to the review, or send it straight from a Google Doc without highlighting anything first.

How is this different from a spellchecker?

A spellchecker corrects. This explains, so the student understands why a change is needed and can decide for themselves.
